Enjoy both a complete morning tour of Christchurch city tour with a lunch and tastings at four beautiful wineries in the Waipara region on shore excursion from Lyttelton.
Your morning tour will include the opportunity to wander the Mona Vale Gardens with its picturesque ponds and water features, with a drive through the city center once with its historic buildings and architecture, now heavily destroyed and badly damaged by the Earthquake hitting the city in February 2011. See for yourself the both destruction of the central city and the rebuild that is taking place. You will also visit both the botanical gardens in the central city and the seaside suburb of Sumner, before travelling to the Sign of the Takahe to admire some spectacular views over the City, Canterbury Plains and Southern Alps.
At the conclusion of your city tour, you will travel 45 minutes north to the Waipara Wine Region - well known for its warm, dry climate and rich alluvial soils, ideal for superior wine production. Over 40 vineyards and wineries pepper the landscape of the valley, with pinot noir, riesling, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc dominating local plantings.
The first stop is at Waipara Springs Winery where both a tasting of their wines and lunch has been arranged for your enjoyment. You will also stop for tastings at Pegasus Bay, Waipara Hills and Greystone Winery. From Waipara you will be returned to your cruise ship berthed in Lyttelton.
